Yung-chen Chiang, a native of Taiwan, focuses his research on Modern China and gender, and work on a multi-volume biography of Hu Shi, former Chinese ambassador to the United States from 1938-42. The first two volumes on Hu Shi have been published in Taiwan and China. Chiang plans to complete the third volume in the series during a sabbatical in 2016-17. Chiang teaches a course titled East Meets West: Hu Shi. His book, Modern China and Gender, was published by Cambridge University Press in 2001.
